Marytam,
I absolutely adore Addy, myself. I think she is the sweetest natued and most thoughtful of all the girls. I vote with Kim - and here are a couple of tips:
Look under griswald for your pan. They have made cast iron pans - perhaps since Addy's time. They made little frying pans as ash trays and they are the same size. Most but not all have the cigarette holder dent.
I have a collection of antique yelloware bowls in child sizes that my father used to enjoy picking up for me. There is a great variety, and this is the name for that type of pottery. You will find little pie pans, and I even have a bowl with a slot for seperating eggs.
Both the above can get pricey - be patient. both are still produced. I bought a different type bowl from Tuesday Morning that is rust colored all over and mroe fre form - looks more like what Addy might have had. I don't know that they had yelloware. My dad had a special interest in Civil War period pottery, and even discovered a now famous slave potter named Dave. He wsa literate, an eleoquant poet and about 8 feet tall. My sister used to climb into his pots to play hide and seek ( these same pots now sell for about 2500.00 each but what did we know) Growing up I saw a lot of pottery from crude voodoo jugs to manufactured vessels with a white glaze and blue numbers on them. Most household pottery had a grainy green glaze or else chocolate brown.
Think about other things you can make - most slaves did make whatever they needed themselves, and were ingenious about it. Some friends of my dh tried to get a Middle Passage museum established ( the plan has now been scraped) and their collection contained a vast variety of tool from brooms to pitchforks to shoes, that were all not only hand made without the use of tools ( or used only rudimentary tools) , but which did not follow the usual patterns of tradition. I suppose this is owing to the extreme isolation many slaves experienced (one way to keep a slave reliant on hs owner was to not give him anyone to communicate with from the outside world).
I am eagerly awaiting FrankenAddy - the hospital is making me a doll from scratch because I got a run of Addy's with bad hair. My understanding is they will take the best they have of each type of part and put together one that will have great coloring and great hair.
Popsie
